Cootje Kenemans-Hummelen et Barbara Thomas partagent la même passion pour la peinture sur soie. De leur amitié est ne l'atelier 'Soit et autres Art', ou elles explorent l’ infinie richesse de ce matériau privilégie.

Leur travail s'appuie entre autres sur les techniques traditionnelles du batik et du shibori. Chaque ouvre révèle une harmonie spécifique de couleurs et de textures. "textures. "Pour nous, disent elles, la peinture sur soie est un jeu sans fin d'émotions, de mouvements et de couleurs, véhicules par un tissu a la fois ancien et moderne".

L'art vestimentaire intemporel est devenu une de leurs spécialités. Leurs manteaux, kimonos et autres vestes échappent a toute mode. Chaque pièce, porteuse de trouvailles inédites (souvent suscitées par les commandes de leurs clients) est une oeuvre d'art a part entière.

SILK FROM SOIES de SOIT 

The close friendship between Cootje Kenemans-Hummelen and Barbara Thomas, resulted in "Soit, silk and other Arts".  Both women were inspired by the colors and the textures that could be achieved with silk and brush, ink and paint. 

Their collaboration has led to a use of silk that is often exciting and exceptional.  Their aim is to create something that is timeless and wearable, the emphasis being on art.  Influences on their work include the techniques of batik and shibori, resulting in a harmony of texture and color. 

"Working with silk is the endless search for combinations of colors and shapes, emotions and expressiveness. Silk is an ancient, yet also modern medium" .

There is always an element of surprise, as can be seen from the lining of their jackets, coats or hats. In their own studios they work on their designs, often commissioned by private persons and museums. 

The exhibition of their work shows not only a selection of their many clothes and hats but also the richly decorated fabrics for which they have gained much acclaim. These are definitely collectibles.

SOIEs de SOIT zijde en andere kunst 

 

Cootje Kenemans en Barbara Thomas vormen het collectief SOIT. 

 

De fascinatie voor het schilderen op zijde, waaraan ze zich beiden vanaf de  jaren '80 voornamelijk wijden, bindt hen. 

Zij hebben allebei een eigen atelier en maken nooit echt samen een werkstuk, maar praten wel heel veel met elkaar. De een is klankbord en kritische noot voor de ander. 

Hun werk past goed bij elkaar, waardoor er eenheid in de SOIT -collectie te vinden is. 

Cootje en Barbara experimenteren in het platte vlak met verschillende schildertechnieken onder andere shibori en batik, de driedimentionaliteit leggen zij in quilts, nuno-vilt en kledingstukken. 

Ze maken gebruik van de meest uiteenlopende soorten zijde, technieken en kleurcombinaties. Het uitgangspunt is altijd het vrij beschilderen van een lap stof;  de toepassing komt pas in tweede instantie.  Jassen, kimono's, jakjes, alles is mogelijk. Bij de jassen is er door gebruik van verschillend beschilderde stoffen een spannende verhouding tussen binnen- en buitenkant. 

Cootje Kenemans en Barbara van der Waal  maken bewust geen mode, hun werk is tijdloos; iemand moet een kledingstuk 10 jaar kunnen dragen.
